Mick Caunce: Season so far..

Submitted by on December 1, 2013 – 4:06 pmNo Comment

As we come to the end of the year with only today’s game v Hull and our last home game before the Christmas break v Sheffield on Sunday 15th I thought it was time to give a bit of a breakdown as to our progress so far.

I knew it was going to be difficult to get the team we wanted in place before the season started. But we managed to sign a good mix of players and started of great until injuries crippled us. We are competing for players with established clubs and teams who already have structures in place and good fan bases to attract sponsors and income. Our junior development is starting to take shape and we have some local stars of the future already on our U10′s team.

Ben’s departure was a blow but one we can easily get over, personally I felt let down by Ben as I suggested him as our captain but in reflection he was not the right choice. But he’s gone now and we need to move on and strive to get our next win. I have been working hard trying to get new players interested in joining the Wild and this week we had 5 new lads on the ice Thursday and at least 3 we want to sign, we have agreed terms with one new player icing tonight in #14 shirt Brad Valentine who has been playing rec in Manchester and feels he is ready for the step-up. Chad Briggs was training this week and will be wearing #6 with Andy Clark #3 also available we are looking in far better shape than we did in our last 3 games. Still missing are brothers #12 Marc Etherington & #22 Dan Etherington, Matt Watts, Troy Evans and Tom McDonald who recently had his first child. Returning after injury is Calum Ruddick and Richard Charles who both trained hard on Thursday with no adverse after effects.
The first games back in the new year start with away at Blackburn 11th Jan & home to Sheffield on Sunday 12th Jan 2014. All games we can win if we play like we can and avoid more injuries.

I would like to thank everyone for there continued support and wish everyone a great Xmas and a happy and successful New Year!
