From Minnesota, With Love.

We recently received a e-mail from Matthew Colford, a Minnesota resident and we wanted to share it with anyone following our club.

After reading the e-mail sent direct from the Midwestern state in America, I got in touch with Matthew to see if he was happy for us to share his message with you, which gives us a nice link from Widnes to Minnesota.

Dear Widnes Wild organization,

I am writing to you after doing a google search on my Fathers hometown of Widnes a few nights ago where I came across the Widnes Wild. My father Matthew Thomas Colford was born in Widnes in 1933 and immigrated to the US in the 1950′s with my Mother Lillian Colford also of Widnes. While they have both recently passed away we still have many wonderful cousins living in Widnes and have visited there in our childhood days.

As my parents lived and raised us here in Minneapolis Minnesota the home of the NHL’s Minnesota Wild hockey team I thought it ironic that Widnes also had a team named the Wild. As you may know hockey is a huge sport here in Minnesota and my four children (the grandchildren of Matthew and Lillian) are avid hockey players at their various age levels. Our son Matthew Thomas Colford named after his grandfather, recently participated in the Minnesota High School hockey tournament here in Minnesota which is played at the home arena of the Minnesota Wild NHL franchise in front of over 15,000 fans and televised across the entire state. It is a great annual event for hockey. After the tournament our son Matthew (grandson of Matthew T. and Lillian Colford of Widnes) was featured in an article which I have attached.

I just thought the connection back to Widnes and the start of hockey In your great town, for our son (who is now playing in the North American Hockey League) and his Widnes born Grandfather namesake was interesting.

In any event I hope you enjoy the article and hockey connection from Minnesota back to Widnes and know that we will be following the Widnes Wild from our home here in Minnesota.

To that end we wish you the best of luck this season.

Matthew D. Colford
(son of Matthew T Colford and Lillian Colford, formerly of Widnes, Cheshire)

Below is the article link which is referred to in the e-mail:

We hope we can give the Colford family a story they can continue to tell to their children.
